18. IS IT EASY TO BE A MOTHER ? ( Four compositions - BACHILERATO 1)

It certainly is not easy at all to be a mother. It is not easy to take care of oneself so I just can’t imagine taking care of another person at the same time, loving someone so much to give your heart and soul to them, even putting their life above yours. In spite of this, I hope one day I will become a mother.

Being a mother of a boy might be more difficult when the kid is small, as little boys are naughtier than girls, and they are more adventurous, which leads to having more accidents and being more careless. On the contrary, when they are adolescents, they are easier to take care of, as they have higher self esteem than girls, and that is easier to deal with. A teenaged girl will be more concerned about her image and what other people think of her, whereas a boy will be more concentrated on having fun with his friends and having a girlfriend. A girl will also make huge problems of something whereas a boy would just laugh at it, or not even notice at all. That is an advantage of being a boy, and so of taking care of a boy, who will have half the problems a girl will have.

In conclusion, even though having a boy or a girl has its good and bad periods, and its pros and cons, I would definitely prefer having a son rather than having a daughter, and maybe that is because I know the problems of being a girl, and as I make better friends with boys than with girls, I understand how they feel, and I compare it to my feelings, and think that it is easier to feel as boys do.

The step of being a mother is not something that you decide suddenly when you wake up one morning. It has to come from a deep reflection with your partner, since having a baby is not as having a doll. You have to bring your child up, providing him values and good manners. All in all, it is a great responsibility.

On the one hand, a child can be one of the happiest things of your life, as he is part of you and you will love him unconditionally. While he is growing up, you share good moments with him that will turn into good memories later. Children also keep you company and stay with you the rest of your life. They can have kids and provide you precious grandchildren. Everybody would like to be surrounded by a family when we are old.

On the other hand, having a child means time, work and a lot of patience. When your child is a baby, you have to take care of him all day long (nights won’t be so pleasant if your baby cries at 3 a.m.). You have to feed him, bathe him, play with him and make him happy anyway. When he grows up, arguments start. Your son or daughter won’t always agree with you, so you will have to deal with it. In addition, a child means money too, so if you haven’t got a good economic situation, you should think if you can give him the life that he deserves.

To sum up, I don’t believe that being a mother is easy. In fact, it supposes a very big effort and dedication, and your crazy life as a single will end. But it can be the greatest event of your whole lifetime, if you bring him up from love and accompanied by your partner.

We are all going to grow up some day, and most of us will have children. It might not seem to be something really significant, as we are all used to watching our parents play their roles, but in fact, being a father is a huge change in a person's life.

You may be wondering: what does a father do which is so important? Maybe punish his child? Maybe drive him to school? Well, as a father you are basically creating a new individual. Your work as the male head of the household is to prepare your son or daughter so that they have a nice life one day. This, of course, implies a lot of effort, and taking decisions which are not always easy to take. For instance, if your son behaves badly in a formal situation, you will probably have to rebuke him, since if you do not do it, he could one day ruin an important meeting with his boss and get fired, as he would never have been taught how to behave properly. Nevertheless, it is not easy to rebuke your son, as after all, he is the person that you love the most.

This allows us to claim that being a father is rather difficult, since you have to make the correct choices in order to make your children become happy and cheerful people. However, the way to achieve this goal is not always easy, as it might imply a lot of hard decisions, which could sometimes make our children hate us. Personally, I am incredibly thankful tmy father, Carlos, who has made me love everything I love now, and who has taught me to always look at the bright side of life. In fact, I am fairly pleased with the person that I am turning into, and I am really looking forward to seeing where I will one day manage to get.

It is very difficult to decide if being a mother is easy or not. There are a lot of factors that you need to keep in mind.

If we think about a normal situation where a couple has already got married and they are having a baby, being a mother is not so difficult. Of course, it is obvious that you would sometimes like to have more free time, but you have the support of your husband and family. You might be a very good mother who takes care of your child but, as a person that you are, you need your space from time to time, so your child can stay with his grandparents and you can go out. In conclusion, you can enjoy looking after your baby and you can also have free time.

On the other hand, imagine being a single mother who has no family. You would never have time to enjoy yourself. Of course, having a baby is wonderful, from my point of view, but you would get really tired. In that case, being a mother is not easy at all.

In conclusion, being a mother might not be so difficult if you have your family’s support. But if you don’t, it can be something really tiring.

17. IF I WERE A TIME TRAVELLER. (Two compositions - BACHILLERATO 1)

If I were a time traveller I wouldn't be sure what to do. Probably, the first thing that I would do is go to the future. I would like to see how technology has changed and how society is. I would see the results of the lottery and I would come to the present and spend all my money buying tickets, so I would be a millionaire the rest of my life. I am not sure if I would like to see myself in the future as it could surprise me and even be paralyzed. On the other hand, if my future weren't good, I could change it.

I don't know if I would like to travel to the past. There are things that I would like to change and see people who are not with me anymore, but I don't know how it would change the present. It would be completely different, and it could be worse, so it's better to let it be.

In conclusion, I would go to the future, I would see how it is and I wouldn't speak with anybody, just in case. Of course, I would see the lottery results to enjoy my life at the present. Then, I would destroy the time machine. I think it would be a dangerous object.

If I were a time traveller, I would go back through history and visit the city of Rome, in times of the Ancient Roman Empire. This period has always fascinated me since the Romans formed the most developed culture at that time, in almost every field: laws, medicine, architecture, art, warfare, philosophy, history… Not only did they conquer large territories (Europe, Asia, Africa), but they also left their mark enriching those lands with their culture.

Once I were there, I would begin visiting a “Domus”, with its central courtyard with a little pond and statues in the middle. I would like to see the colourful paintings on the walls, and the different rooms of the house: the dining room, where they had meals lying on a kind of deckchair; the library, where they collected lots of papyrus manuscripts; the women’s rooms, where women got dressed with beautiful tunics and had their hairstyle done by servants.

Later, I would go outside and walk around the city. I would visit the theatre and the Coliseum, and then I would stop my walk to listen to a wise orator, and try to understand his theories. After his speech, I would visit some Roman temples and learn about the mythology, which is not precisely limited.

When I were in the Ancient Rome, I would like to have a guide to show me every little corner of the city, and if it were possible, I would spend there a long time.

The last and most relaxing thing I would do, would be visit the baths, one of the most attractive sites of this city.
