Since the day I was born, my parents have been taking me to the same place. That place is a tiny village in the north of Burgos. Since the very first moment that I was there, I fell in love. The village is called Santa Coloma del Rudrón and it is my hometown, as well as my father's family.

The village is situated between two mountains and a river flows through the center. There is a square in the middle and there is a fountain whose water comes from a spring. This fountain is one of the things that I love the most about my hometown as it flows everyday non-stop. It's the clearest water I have ever seen in my life. In addition, it is always fresh and clean.

Moreover, I enjoy riding my bike around the village. My friends and I go on small trips to nearby villages taking pleasure in the beautiful views and practising some sport. As the village is very small, I know everybody, that's why we are like  a big family. We organize meals, parties or we go for a walk together.

Santa Coloma is the most special place in my life since I have spent all my life going there and I have some great friends. When I think about Santa Coloma I think about my childhood, about great memories and about spectacular surrounding areas.

Not so long ago everybody bought music in vinyl or in reels. Nowadays instead of buying CDs in shops, we download entire albums from the Internet. This action is becoming a problem as artists aren't earning money, or they are earning a lower salary.

On the one hand, I am against those people who say that music should be free since it is culture. The first reason why I don't support this statement is because behind artists and labels there are a lot of people who have worked on that song they have downloaded illegally. If everybody stops consuming music or films thousands of talented people are going to be fired.

On the other hand, I understand why some people refuse to buy records. They say that they don't want to help famous singers or famous actors to become even richer. I disagree with this opinion as they work hard to create the best song or to act as well as they can.

In conclusion, to solve this problem people must watch films on Netflix, YOMVI or similar websites and people must listen to music on Spotify, Apple Music or Tidal. Thanks to these subscriptions everybody is paying the singer of the song, the drummer, the producer, the director or the interpreter.

LA BOVEDA BOTÁNICA

    1. El guayabo se tiene que ir

   Érase una vez una bóveda llena de plantas extrañas como akees, guaranás, dedos de Buda... Incluso un guayabo que repelía desde tarántulas hasta piojos. Su dueño era el ídolo de todos los jardineros, ya que tenía varias áreas climáticas para cada planta, y un sistema eléctrico que funcionaba con biodiesel hecho con guaraná, esencia de Durian y pétalos de orquídea abeja.

   Hasta tenía un ábaco hecho con fibra de mangle, madera de palisandro y semillas talladas de coco culo.También había hecho grandes descubrimientos agrícolas, como la sandía triangular que había creado el año anterior.

   Pero había una cosa que le hacía sentirse incómodo, el causante de muchas quejas: el cálido guayabo tenía muchas guayabas y, cuando estaban maduras se caían en la cabeza de la gente. Tomó la fatídica decisión de que ese guayabo sería devuelto a México la mañana siguiente.

   Tras llevarse el guayabo, se percató de que había un montón de seres muy conocidos y molestos entre los jardineros: los insectos.

    El jardinero montó en cólera ya que se dio cuenta de que no dejarían ni una hoja sin devorar. Pensaba que, como el guayabo ya no estaba, los insectos no tenían ningún pesticida que les ahuyentara, así que su paraíso ecológico estaba condenado a la destrucción.

   Entonces pensó que tendría que salir de allí, fuera de la bóveda, pilotando el magnífico helicóptero que había construido con fruto de mármol, con cristal hecho por él mismo con la arena de las plantas desérticas, hongos paraguas, madera de caoba maciza con bombas anti-insectos de menta de gato, una radio hecha con tendones de cardo ruso y curupay, y faros fabricados con clitócido del olivo. Todo estaba listo para despegar.

   Al llegar a México, buscó al mercader de guayabas más cercano y le compró una, pero, a la hora de pagar, se dio cuenta de que que unas polillas atlas se habían comido su cartera de pétalos de loto chino.

   Pensando, decidió que a cambio de la guayaba, le enseñaría la flor más pequeña del mundo y se la ofrecería. Era una minúscula wolffia arrhiza. Viendo que era tan bonita, el mercader aceptó el trato.

   Al llegar tomó la decisión de proteger el brote de guayaba de los insectos. Por eso, aquella noche, puso plantas defensivas de todo tipo alrededor del brote de guayaba: curupays, que atraen a los murciélagos para que lo protejan; bayas de belladona, porque son muy venenosas;  cactus porta-cuchillos, que cuando son comidos, colisionan contra los insectos pesados y les clavan sus pinchos; victorias amazónicas que flotan en charcas llenas de peces cerbatana; ceropegias, que atrapan a los insectos rápidos; pinguicolas, para atrapar a los insectos voladores como las moscas de la fruta; y la pasionaria, que envía hormigas hacia los animales que la quieren comer para protegerse.

   Al igual que las plantas estaban listas, los mortíferos insectos también. Había toda clase de insectos: cucarachas, picudos rojos, avispas, pulgones, escarabajos joya, gorgojos del bambú, hormigas faraonas, perforadores del grano, moscas de la fruta, escarabajos  de las pieles y polillas poodle.

   La batalla duró una hora y resultó ser la batalla contra los insectos más larga y épica que había vivido ese jardinero en sus veinte años de profesión.

   Al final de la batalla, el ejército de insectos ya se había retirado. El jardinero contempló detenidamente cómo las pinguicolas digerían lentamente sus humildes presas y aprendió una gran lección: que la naturaleza merece ser aceptada, aunque tenga formas extrañas de hacer las cosas. 

T. 116: CÓMO ESCRIBIR UNA REDACCIÓN EN INGLÉS, CON MODELO PRÁCTICO DE REDACCIÓN (1º-2º ESO)

 ¿ Tienes que escribir una redacción en inglés y no sabes como empezar?  He aquí algunos consejos que te pueden ayudar:

1.    La mayoría de las frases que vas a escribir serán afirmativas o negativas.

       Ten en cuenta que en inglés estas frases, salvo unas pocas excepciones, deben tener siempre un sujeto, un verbo y los complementos y que el orden es:  sujeto + verbo + complementos ( S  V  C).

2.  Al escribir debes hacerlo describiendo detalles. Cuantos más detalles anotes relacionados con el tema asignado, mejor será la redacción.

      Usa tu imaginación y capacidad creativa al escribir.

3.    Usa vocabulario variado y preciso: verbos, conectores,… . Trabaja siempre con el diccionario a mano para consultarlo porque te será de gran ayuda.

       Procura evitar la repetición de las mismas palabras a lo largo del texto (go, went, and, because,…) y evita insertar frases de relleno para contabilizar palabras que no aportan ningún valor a la redacción. Esto aburre a los lectores y al corrector.

4.  Separa la redacción en párrafos. Una redacción consta normalmente de varios párrafos.

    Cuida la presentación , caligrafía , puntuación y uso de mayúsculas/minúsculas.

5.  Esfuérzate y sé constante. Si lo haces así , a medida que vayas escribiendo redacciones, mejorarás.

   A continuación se te muestra un modelo de redacción, con sus elementos principales subrayados (sujeto , verbo y complementos) , en la que puedes ver cómo se escribe de forma detallada, usando vocabulario variado y conectores diferentes (en color rojo) que enriquecen el texto.

I have liked a boy in my class since the beginning of the school year, but I don't know what to do, as we are both really shy. I need advice about this, since this is our last year together. I'm afraid he will move to another city and we won't see each other again.

On the one hand, I am very timid, and even more the first time I talk to somebody, and when he is in front of me, I don't know what to say and I feel wordless.

On the other hand, I know I have to do something and try to approach him before it is too late. This is why I write this letter, as I need someone experienced to advise me and teach me some tricks to get his attention.

In conclusion, I have a big crush on a student of my class. He is a clever boy, really handsome and very nice. The few times I have spoken with him, he seemed to be my perfect match. So this is the reason why I need you to help me!

I remember as a young child going to my grandparents' village, Navedo, almost every weekend. It is a special place to my family for many reasons, but the most meaningful explanation is that my grandmother still preserves the house where my father and his three siblings were raised. 

Navedo is a little village located in a valley called 'Peñarrubia', which, to me, has one of the most wonderful landscapes of Cantabria. Navedo has no more than 50 inhabitants, which means everybody knows everyone. This is one of the reasons why I love going there: its familiar environment. 

Besides, owing to its location and its natural environment, it is my favourite place to relax and get away from the daily problems and stress. Moreover, when I go there, I remember how delighted I was running all over the village as a child and then having chocolate or cheese sandwiches that my grandma prepared me, and I feel melancholic.  

In conclusion, that place has played a main role in my childhood and, although these last years I haven't been there as I used to before, it will always be a unique place to me.
