32. IS SEPARATING GIRLS AND BOYS AT SCHOOL BENEFICIAL ? By I.V.R (Bachillerato 2)

In ancient times it was believed that separating people because of their sex was beneficial, specially when they were teenagers.

Nowadays, in some cultures, like the Arabic and Anglo-saxon, this idea is still current.

However, some scientific studies corroborate that it is important for our psychological development to socialize with the other sex, since we can learn how they act and it can influence us in our daily life and in how we think.

In my opinion, girls and boys should be together as it is something essential for our growth. It is irrefutable that we are less worried about interacting with the other sex if we regularly are in contact with them.

Because of my experience, I can say that it wasn’t annoying being with boys in the same class and nowadays I continue sharing time with them and I am delighted because of that.

For me sharing class with boys is a way to interact and know the world which is around us.

31. IS IT BENEFICIAL TO SEPARATE GIRLS AND BOYS AT SCHOOL ? By G.R. (Bachillerato 2)

Separating girls and boys at school is not convenient for their education.

There are several studies that show that when boys and girls are separated at school, academic results are more positive. But, at what price are these results achieved? Men and women are predetermined to live in the company of each other throughout their life.

The main goal of the school, apart from getting the necessary academic requirements,  is to educate students to face their daily life. Therefore, if those students are not used to being in class together since their childhood, they can not  develop that capacity and they will have problems in their future. Most people work with a person of the opposite sex.

All in all, students go to school not only to get the best marks, but also to grow as individuals. So girls and boys should be in class together.

30. SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE SEPARATING GIRLS AND BOYS AT SCHOOL IS BENEFICIAL. By L.B (Bachillerato 2)

Separated education is a controversial issue because of the different points of view as well as the diverse types of school.

On the one hand, by dividing boys and girls at school, pupils may be more likely to succeed as they would be more able to focus on their studies. As everybody knows, puberty and adolescence are complex life stages so the less distractions you have, the more opportunities you will have to achieve your goals.

However, separated schools can be harmful to social integration between girls and boys. Besides, academic success has nothing to do with the sex of a person.

Coeducation is beneficial since students are going to meet lots of people in their lives and they must learn to live with people of the other gender, other cultures or religions.

In my opinion, it is not a question of putting an educational system first, but a free education that allows people to choose whatever they want without prejudices.
