SONG: Everybody hurts - R.E.M.
Millions of people, both male and female, undergo cosmetic surgery every year. While some cosmetic surgery is done for medical reasons, such as reconstructing facial features after an accident, many other operations are voluntary.
One of the main benefits of cosmetic or plastic surgery comes to those people who have health issues related to their appearance when they don't like it. However, obsession over a facial or body feature can show mental health disorders, and in my opinion, therapy might be a better option than surgery, both because of economic reasons and because of the complications an operation implies.
Cosmetic surgery is still surgery, and shouldn't be taken lightly. As I said before, complications exist, just as in any other operations. Furthermore, sometimes it doesn't produce the results the patient expected, which is often a problem. Those expectations tend to be unrealistic; for instance, there are people who decide to change their appearance in order to make them look like a Hollywood star.
To sum up, I don't think cosmetic surgery should be the solution to our problems, unless they are to solve a health problem.
